The Dishwasher: the life in an old people’s house seen through the eyes of Ronny, a young boy with impaired cognition.

Ronny is a man with impaired cognition who works at a rest home situated in Brianza. A place where you lose the perception of time passing and in which the space is tight. Then what is the secret of Ronny?

The project borns from the idea of a young director, Davide Piras who found himself in a rest home and meets Ronny- The Dishwasher.

Intrigued by the sensations of whom inhabit and live in Casa Famiglia San Giuseppe, Davide chooses to ask some questions to the residents to better understand the most common emotions. The result: a shared passive perception of time.

The main theme of the project is time. The viewer plunges himself into the reality of an old people’s house in which time and space are deformed, thinned, and slowed.

The retirement home thus becomes a place where a man seems to vanish, deprived of dreams, projects, and ambitions. The actions are repeated every day, the environment remains unchanged over the months, and in this sunset of life, the only travel companion is faith.

Who is Ronny? Ronny is a silent narrator who guides us through the rooms in order to show what happens there. An engaging, intimate, silent and realistic narration. Ronny's secret: he is invisible. He has access to all the places of the structure freely and often we do not notice his presence or do not remember it.

Ronny interacts with the guests, takes care of them, and observes them between the different rooms of the structure. Anguish and boredom are the most frequent sensations during his days and the only noise that distracts him from these feelings is the sound of the loudspeaker that warns of the start of an activity.

An authorial hand for an exciting story that aims to become a narrative model for different social themes. Ronny's story is intertwined with that of the retirement home in a story based on sounds and images, an artistic and documentary vision with a final message full of meaning.
